We, Women’s Peace Network, welcome the International Criminal Court (ICC) Prosecutor Karim A. A. Khan KC’s application for an arrest warrant before the ICC’s Pre-Trial Chamber I, against the Burmese military’s Commander-in-Chief, Min Aung Hlaing, for “the crimes against humanity of deportation and persecution of Rohingya, committed in Myanmar, and in part in Bangladesh.”


Statement on Myanmar junta’s sham executions of civilians, including pro-democracy activists and woman human rights defenders

To end the junta’s sham executions of civilians – including pro-democracy activists and WHRDs – WPN urges the international community to hold the Burmese military accountable for its arbitrary arrest and detention of over 27,000 people, as well as its commission of war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide, as a fundamental step toward ending impunity in Myanmar.

To “inspire inclusion,” we must actively build an environment that will be conducive to it. Toward that inclusion, ethnic and religious minority women have long worked to end the impunity that for decades enabled the commission of atrocity crimes against them. Today, people across the country follow these women in their fight for a truly inclusive federal democracy. The world too should be inspired by the women of Myanmar, and act in their favor immediately.
